Fifth Chute Holiday Gift Guide

Thoughtful gifting is always our favourite way to show our care during the holiday season. We are proud to offer a curated selection of goods that are hand made with care by makers from the Ottawa Valley and surrounding area who are passionate about their craft.

Fifth Chute is the fortunate home to the textile artwork by Amanda Urbanksi, the force behind Stella Textiles in Petawawa. Amanda is a light of creativity and kindness and this shines through in her weavings and mixed media paintings. The impeccable colour palette and lush textures add warmth and beauty to our space, and are available for sale to find a place under your Christmas tree.

We are so excited to offer a new collection of skincare products from Ash & Posy in Ottawa. Featuring sustainable and wild-crafted essential oils, these lotions, perfumes, and body washes feature natural, earthy aromas for everyone.

For the hard-to-buy-for, edible is always suitable. Almonte’s Hummingbird Chocolate Maker’s salted caramel chocolate gift boxes and candy cane bark always go fast (speaking from experience, it may be wise to get yourself a box that is strictly not for sharing). We also have a whole lineup of flavour-infused honey from Paradisio Bees in Killaloe, including a cinnamon spiced blend that just screams Christmas, no matter if it’s on your toast or in your mulled wine.

Of course, we are all about our coffee here at Fifth Chute. Every coffee lover must have a Chemex brewer. Made in Massachusetts, these elegant brewers are designed not only to brew a perfect cup of coffee, but are a beautiful addition to your tablescape. Does your giftee already have a brewer? They may also need a gooseneck kettle, for a perfectly even pour, every time. At the same time, check in to see what holiday blend coffees we have in stock, and add on one of our custom made handmade mugs from Little Creek Pottery in Cobden to round out your gift!

Our family has a tradition of gifting books on Christmas Eve. Local author Zach Loeks is a consultant specializing in eco-education sites based around edible ecosystems and permaculture. We carry both of his books, the Permaculture Market Garden and The Edible Ecosystem Solution, for the gardener in your life. For the local enthusiast, Ottawa Valley Whereabouts by Tim Gilchrist has compiled a book of beautiful photographs of the region’s most intriguing hidden gems.

In our opinion, the best part of Christmas gifts is the stockings. Beeswax lip balms and soaps from Paradisio Bees, flakey sea salt from Newfoundland Sea Salt, drinking chocolate from Hummingbird Chocolate, roll on scents from Ash & Posy, preserves from Beth’s Kitchen in Foymount, cascara coffee cherry tea from Detour Coffee in Hamilton - there’s no better stuffing for the sock.
